Ustream launches live network, Vislink reveals military satellite and Classbook announces new high school project
Ustream, a leading provider of digital video streaming, will launch its new live broadcast network today, with a live and interactive "Presidential Debate Watch Party", consisting of a live stream of tonight's presidential debate and hundreds of commentary options to offer viewers with a truly social experience.
The company hopes that the debate will be the start of a 24/7 broadcasting network, including popular viral videos, live news coverage and even entertainment and sports programmes from some of the world's biggest networks. According to CEO Brad Hunstable, the company is looking to build on the success it has seen with broadcasts of the Mars Rover Landing and the launch of the iPhone 5, stating that "the new Ustream network takes live video viewing to an entirely new level by... organising the world's most compelling live experiences".
Vislink, a global provider of high quality video and data collection equipment, has announced the launch of a new range of satellites designed to provide the military with access to the "world's smallest and lightest satellite data terminal". The new product has been designed to offer a high quality and hard-wearing communication solution to international military units, with the company assuring potential buyers that the satellite is designed to withstand even the most extreme battle conditions.
The Mantis MSAT has been years in development, with CEO Stephen Rudd expressing his delight at producing "a rugged, highly reliable and lightweight package that can be deployed anywhere in the world". Not only will the product allow units on the ground to transmit high definition video, audio and stills to their respective bases, but it also allows the upload of this data at an impressive average of 5mbps.
ClassBook.com, one of America's largest publishers of digital textbooks, has announced a partnership with education software specialists Kno Inc, aimed at providing access to a wide range of digital products to more than 200 high schools across the US.
The program will give thousands of students access to a full range of digital educational material, containing a number of innovative and interactive features designed to engage the reader and create a deeper learning experience. Students will be able to select from over 200,000 titles from 65 different publishers, and download the content directly to their iPad or Android powered device. The service will launch later this year.
