-- Three-Day Visit Geared to Help Israeli Companies Navigate the Federal Government Contracting Process

TYSONS CORNER, Virginia, Nov. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP and the Virginia Israel Advisory Board co-sponsored the Gateway USA: Defense & Homeland Security program, which educated Israeli companies with respect to government contracting opportunities for various branches of the U.S. government. The program also helped familiarize them with the federal procurement process and introduced them to potential teaming partners.

After completing the program, several of the companies participated in the annual Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) Conference in Washington, D.C. to demonstrate their products and services with prospective customers and business partners. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority and several other government services businesses also hosted meetings with the Israeli companies to introduce them to the Northern Virginia area and government contracting space. The participating Israeli companies had been selected from a substantial pool of qualified applicants after a comprehensive screening process that commenced in the firm's Tel Aviv office in August.

"This was a unique opportunity for us, especially in light of our resources in the Virginia-Washington, D.C. corridor and our firm's growing presence in Tel Aviv," said Mark Wishner, co-managing shareholder of the Tysons Corner office. "The forum fostered discussion on a wide array of topics and included presentations from officials in academia, government and the private sector.  Most importantly, it provided an opportunity for us to cultivate relationships that established a foundation for collaboration on future projects."

The Gateway USA companies included technology manufacturers, developers of command and control systems, aerospace and defense contractors and electronic component suppliers.  Attorneys from Greenberg Traurig's offices in Tysons Corner (Northern VA), Miami, and Tel Aviv attended the forum.

"We were pleased to be a sponsor of this inaugural event and host the leaders of several highly respected business and technology companies in Israel," said Gary Epstein, chair of Greenberg Traurig's Global Corporate & Securities Practice and managing shareholder of the firm's Tel Aviv office. "Our firm has a unified approach that allows attorneys in Northern Virginia, Tel Aviv, and throughout our 35-office platform to seamlessly help clients enhance and expand their businesses overseas to explore opportunities in the government contracting arena and beyond."

Greenberg Traurig's Israel Practice provides a range of general U.S. and international legal services to Israeli businesses pursuing opportunities abroad and within Israel. The team has wide-ranging experience advising public and private companies in Israel on U.S. corporate issues, securities laws and corporate governance. The firm advises on in-bound U.S. public offerings by Israeli companies, and counsels all sides of cross-border merger and acquisition transactions involving Israeli companies. Greenberg Traurig attorneys also assist companies with venture capital and private equity transactions, executive compensation matters, intellectual property, tax, dispute resolution, regulatory and compliance issues.

The Gateway USA program was held on Oct. 17 - 19. Greenberg Traurig's Tel Aviv office is a branch of Greenberg Traurig, P.A., Florida, USA.
